The ambitious water supply project Great Man-Made River has attracted a great deal of attention in recent decades. The huge pipelines transport large amounts of groundwater from the southern arid regions to the Libyan population in the north. The UNESCO honoured the project by adopting the project’s name for its “International Water Prize”. The project is also depicted on the “Buddy Bear” of the Libyan Embassy in Berlin (Buddy Bears are famous statues in Berlin)
